Nipomo, CA

Nipomo ` derived from the Chumash word, meaning "foot of the hills."

Home to a population of 18,000 and growing, Nipomo is a vibrant community with a mixed, rural / suburban feel. Spotted with citrus and avocado orchards stretching west from the hills to the Mesa, where flower fields captivate road trippers along Hwy 1, and rolling dunes supply a stunning back drop to the world class golf communities of Trilogy at Monarch Dunes,  Black Lake, and Cypress Ridge.

History

The historical Dana Adobe Museum & Cultural Center provides a window into Nipomo's rich ranching past and the event center hosts a variety of music and cultural events year- round. The Dana Adobe / "Casa de Dana" is one of the earliest adobe dwellings built in San Luis Obispo County and became the celebrated home of Sea Captain William Goodwin Dana, and his wife Maria Josefa Carrillo Dana, who in 1837 were granted the 37,888-acre Rancho Nipomo on which they built their home.

Old Towne Nipomo lies east of Hwy 101 and across the freeway, on the west side is the newer section of the town center with grocery shopping, restaurants, Post Office, UPS and medical offices to name a few but not all of the amenities available.
